I’ve never played the original Tiny Epic Galaxies so I’m not sure what was streamlined in Blast Off but we had a lot of fun with this one. In Blast Off, you are trying to colonize as many planets as you can by choosing what actions to perform based on what dice you roll on your turn. The first player to 21 points triggers the end game.
The Good: The game felt very balanced at 3 players. I finished last but it never felt like I was going to lose. The follow mechanic is also a really nice way to limit downtime when it is not your turn. It never felt like a waiting game. Its also never not fun to roll a bunch of dice and see what happens.
The Okay: There were some questions about the cards and the rule book but that could have been my lack of teaching skills/remembrance abilities.
The Not So Good: While the follow mechanic is really nice, if you don’t have the resources to actually follow you will be waiting for you turn which does limit player interaction. There are ways to get the resource needed but it requires some help from the table.
Final Score: 8/10
We had a ton of fun with this one. There’s just enough strategy of how to stop your opponents from getting what they want without it being a total brain burner or overstaying it’s welcome. I would play this again and again if I could!
