Munchkin Critical Role Review

Munchkin Critical Role follows the same theme as any of the other reskinned Munchkin games but this follows the Mighty Nein of the Critical Role web series. Each turn begins with a player "kicking down the door" and dealing with whatever is on the other side. This can be a monster or a curse or it could be something helpful like a role that benefits you. Combat works by comparing your power with the monsters. If yours is higher then you win. If it's lower you lose and then deal with The Bad Stuff on the card. The first player to reach level 10 wins the game. There are obviously some other rules and modifiers to your power but that's the gist of it.

The Good: I absolutely loved the artwork of the game. There are huge decks that all have different illustrations. Even the character boards are double-sided with alternate art. That's a nice touch. There is also quite a bit of player interaction because they can help or hinder you at various stages of the game.

The Okay: The general gameplay was fine. It did not blow me away by any means but it was a nice way to spend an hour with friends. It was my first Munchkin game so I didn't really know what to expect from it. If you are familiar with the series and enjoy it then this is a nice addition to the collection.

The Not So Good: The game started to get a little stale as time went on. It eventually turned into a bit of a slog for someone to win it. This is probably not one that I'd suggest for my own personal game nights but if somebody wants to play it then I'm down for it.

Overall: 6/10

I've always heard mixed things about the Munchkin series. It's a love/hate type of game. I think I'm the slash in that phrase. I really liked some of what the game offers and it provided some silly moments but it's definitely not without its flaws. Like I said, if you're a fan of Critical Role or Munchkin in general then by all means, give this a serious look.

Thanks to The Op for providing me with a copy to review.
